Recent Actions

Over the last year, the Government Affairs Department and the Government Affairs Committee has taken the following actions, which help create a strong and sustainable business environment that promotes investment, innovation, job growth, education/workforce development and economic growth.

Recent actions of the Government Affairs Committee:

  • Identified and lobbied for key legislative issues including Transportation, Education and Renewable Energy on behalf of the Regional Chamber and its members.
  • Cooperated with Chambers from across Washington through the Large Chamber Coalition (LCC) to speak with one voice on issues important to Washington businesses.
  • Supported the Marketplace Fairness Act.
  • Developed 11 priority papers and advocated for their support during the 2013 Legislative Session in Olympia.
  • Recommended support of Senate Bill 5648; narrowing the requirement for utilities to purchase eligible renewable energy resources or renewable energy credits when not needed to serve customers loads.
  • Recommended Legislative and statewide support of the Citizens for P.O.W.E.R. Coalition.
  • Recommended Regional Chamber Board of Director support of the Washington Compact.
  • Recommended that Regional Chamber Board of Directors support the closure and redevelopment of Vista Field in Kennewick.
